Dog Coats

Dog Coats: Necessary Or Not?

Dog coats are provided by the manufacturer. A dog coat is an accessory seen more and more often these days, but what most people don’t realize is that often, whether you have a free pattern for making a dog coat, coats for dogs are unnecessary, except in extreme weather conditions.

Dressing To Stay Warm

In average winter temperatures most dogs enjoy being outdoors. Dogs need their walks and runs to release some of their energy. Many dogs absolutely love to run and play in snow. Huskies and other winter dog coats are designed for winter. Some sporting and herding breeds also have dense undercoats to keep them warm and dry. Other dogs need extra protection from the cold. Unless they have their own cozy fur coats, dogs living in winter climates need a dog coat for warmth and comfort on cold windy days. Dogs that shiver on moderately cold fall days will need a warm sweater or coat and lots of encouragement to go outside in harsh winter weather. Some dogs love wearing coats and being dressed-up. For others, it's something they learn to tolerate.

There are dog coats to sew. If you’re looking for a dog coat to make, there are free dog coat patterns available online. You can choose to make fleece dog coats, polar fleece coats for dogs, wool can be used to make dog coats, practically any fabric can be used as long as it is breathable and easily cleaned. Dog coat pattern availability is getting better and better as more and more celebrities are dressing their dogs for the entire world to see. Whether you have a teacup Yorkie, or a greyhound, dog coats are the rage. You may even want to get a custom made summer dog coat, so your pampered pet can stay dry during summer showers!

A few words of caution, though. Don’t put a coat on your pet just because it is cute. Dogs’ fur is a great form of insulation. It tends to be designed to insulate against both heat and cold, shed and grow back as it is needed, and protect very well from rain. If it is extremely cold, or your dog is cold natured, by all means, use a coat. If it is not, then it is a great idea to be sure your dog is not too hot. Excessive heat, sweating, and getting a chill from being wet are not good for your pet.
